DEVICE & ACCOUNT SETUP — 30-MINUTE CHECKLIST

Do this once for each child's primary phone, tablet, and console.
Re-check every September when school starts and new apps appear.

PHONE — iOS  (Settings → Screen Time)
[ ] Set a Screen Time passcode the child does not know.
[ ] Turn on "Communication Limits" — restrict DMs to known contacts.
[ ] Turn on "Communication Safety" — blurs explicit images and warns.
[ ] Set "Downtime" overnight (9pm – 7am).
[ ] Set "App Limits" for social and video apps.
[ ] "Content & Privacy Restrictions" → block adult web content.
[ ] Disable in-app purchases or require parent approval.

PHONE — Android  (Settings → Digital Wellbeing & Family Link)
[ ] Install Google Family Link on the parent's phone.
[ ] Approve every new app install from the parent's phone.
[ ] Set daily app limits and overnight downtime.
[ ] Set SafeSearch to "Filter" in Google account settings.
[ ] Turn on Play Protect.

SOCIAL ACCOUNTS  (Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.)
[ ] Account set to PRIVATE.
[ ] DMs from strangers turned OFF.
[ ] Location sharing OFF — including "Snap Map" and "last active."
[ ] Tagging by strangers requires approval.
[ ] Two-factor authentication ON (authenticator app, not SMS).
[ ] Recovery email points to a parent-controlled address.

GAMING  (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC, Roblox, Fortnite)
[ ] Voice chat with strangers OFF; on only for confirmed friends.
[ ] Cross-platform play turned OFF for under-13s where possible.
[ ] No saved payment methods on the console or game account.
[ ] Roblox: enable Account Restrictions + set a 4-digit PIN.
[ ] Fortnite: enable Epic Games parental controls + PIN.
[ ] Discord: "Keep me safe" image filter ON; DMs friends-only.

BROWSER & NETWORK
[ ] Family DNS set to NextDNS or CleanBrowsing on the home router.
[ ] Safe Search enforced on Google, YouTube, and Bing.
[ ] YouTube: Restricted Mode ON for the child's account.

PASSWORDS
[ ] Family password manager installed (1Password Families, Bitwarden).
[ ] Every account has a unique password. No re-use anywhere.
[ ] Parent has a copy of every password until age 16.

EMERGENCY READY
[ ] Sextortion emergency card printed and posted (see other PDF).
[ ] Child knows the family phrase that means "I need help, no
